ETHICAL + SUSTAINABLE

How our Products are Ethical and Sustainable:
Hilda uses a mix of purely natural cotton textiles, recycled materials and off-cuts (which are used to create products), to help reduce waste and reduce our impact on the environment. Hilda focuses on efficient processes and smarter, high quality design to create durable and sustainable products. All of our products are locally made by artisans, cruelty-free and made to last. They are ethical and sustainable.

Our batik products are handmade using natural batik cotton and created in small runs and small collections in order to focus on the quality and uniqueness of each design. Our Shea Earth skin care and Cocoa Powder range is Vegan, pesticide free and toxin free. We believe in keeping products in their raw form, so our Shea Butter, African Black Soap and Cocoa Powder are 100% Raw and Unrefined. We are slow fashion.

Our Social Responsibility and Fair Trade Values:
We have built a house in Taifa, Ghana, which is used as our Ghanaian head office and doubles up as our workspace for our team of seamstresses and tailors. This house also provides free accommodation for members of our team who otherwise would struggle to be able to afford a place to live.

Our team are paid ethical, above award wages. Through our organisation, we can offer our staff ongoing work which means they can now provide for their families using the skills they have acquired. We support our staff by offering flexible work hours, especially for our mothers who have school aged children, with most opting to work 5-6 hours per day.

Hilda is all about empowering women and communities in Ghana and through fair trade and artisan made products.
